Oddities old and new at Brixi curiosity shop in Brixton Village

Found amid the buzzing restaurants and colourful fruit and veg stalls of Brixton Village is a very special little shop called Brixi that I can rarely resist. It sells curiosities, and sure enough, some temptation requiring closer inspection catches your eye at every turn.

The friendly owner Emy is a Brixton local and has a truly amazing eye for treasure. The ever-changing stock ranges from handmade and vintage to the downright bizarre.

I’ve resolved many a birthday present dilemma in this magical little place. On a recent visit, I was intrigued by a beautifully intricate WW1 sweetheart cushion, made by a loved one during the war as a reminder of her absent beau.

The store might be small but Emy makes excellent use of the space with her artful displays. And I always love to see the latest creations from the amazingly talented Rebekah of Forgotten Stitches in the window. Currently, beautifully hand-sewn swans sit gracefully alongside a stunning range of fabric figurines, each with their own name and personality.
